Best Time to Visit Sheosar Lake in Pakistan with Family

Sheosar Lake in Pakistan: Sheosar Lake, which is also called Shausar Lake situated in Deosai National Park, Gilgit Baltistan, northern Pakistan. The lake is located at a height of 4,142 meters or 13,589 ft. The Sheosar Lake is accessible through two routes. One is via Astore District and the other via Skardu.

The route toward the Sheosar Lake:

Skardu Route

The road through Skardu can be covered by jeep in a few hours, however, if trekked, it can take 2 days duration.

Astore Route

The second route is from Astore District. From the main Astore town, it takes about 4 hours’ jeep travel through a semi-metal road to reach Chile, the last residential area adjacent to the plains.

Its mesmerizing beauty cannot be defined in words, deep blue water with surrounding green plains of Deosai makes its view amazing and eye-catching. What is the best time to visit?

You get the most of it in summer between June and September. The area of Deosai is snowbound in the months of November to May. During spring, the surrounding area is covered with a wide variety of flowers and butterflies. The best time to visit is June-September, Summer is the season you can enjoy easily in Sheosar lake.

Why did Sheosar Lake call a blind lake?

Sheosar Lake is surrounded by the grassland of Deosai National Park. The lake’s name itself says blind lake because the Sheo means blind and sar meaning is the lake. The water flow to the lake is unknown and has always been a mystery. The researcher says that the source of water to this lake still needs to be explored.

What to do at Lake?

The lake offers the opportunity for outdoor recreation because it supports a small fishery. Despite of its cold and clean water, a very less amount of fish species are available. The government of the fishery department tries for years to introduce the trout fish but failed. Because the snow can fish ate them and intercepted the growth of species. Thus trout couldn’t be introduced in the lake, regardless of the presence of its favorite habitat.

Wetlands of Sheosar Lake

Due to its extreme high-altitude location, Deosai Plains remains covered with snow throughout the year and the snow disappears for only a few months in late spring and summer. When the snow melts, water density increases in the whole landscape, forming it a wetland. This water is vital for the growth of herbaceous plants which are the essential component of the area’s biodiversity.

Ponds of Sheosar Lake

Small ponds are also found throughout the plains which are occasionally flooded. These ponds are habitat to several aquatic plants found in the plains. Some plant species, which are found in this habitat type, are Potamogeton pectinatus, P. nodosus, and Hippuris Vulgaris.
