Kawasaki-like Multi-Inflammatory Syndrome in Pakistan-Kawasaki is a disease that causes inflammation of blood vessels throughout the body. In this disease, the inflammation typically includes swelling, sometimes accompanied by redness and pain.
Cause of Kawasaki Syndrome;
The Kawasaki syndrome discovered in T1967. But thee cause of Kawasaki is still unknown. And now a new disease has discovered which has a resemblance with Kawasaki but not Kawasaki itself. It is found in the children with past coronavirus history.
Kawasaki-like Multi-Inflammatory Syndrome in Pakistan
With the increasing cases of COVID-19 pandemic, recently a new disease has emerged. Some of the doctors calling it Kawasaki like multi-system inflammatory syndrome. However, some other doctors have given this disease the name in association with corona POST COVID INFLAMMATORY DISEASE.
Like Kawasaki, it is a pediatric disease-a disease of children. Besides, this disease affecting children of age between 15 years. However, In Pakistan, the first case an 11 years old boy was confirmed by Professor Masood Sadiq. He is the dean of children’s hospital Lahore. He stated that this disease was not the same as Kawasaki disease.
After that, the new 8 cases have also been reported from Children Hospital Lahore. Similarly, 2- cases from Islamabad and a dozen of cases from NICH, AKU, and Indus Hospital of Karachi. Rather than that, several cases have been confirmed across the world.
In the same way, other countries that are affecting this disease are the US, India, and France. Furthermore, in France, 21 children and adolescents have been reported with the positive test between April 27 and May.
Associated Signs and Symptoms;
The Kawasaki like multi-inflammatory syndrome, however, is associated with COVID-19. So, the children that have been recovered from coronavirus, showing the symptoms of Post-COVID inflammatory disease just after 4-6 weeks of shedding the virus.

- Skin rash
- Red-eyes
- Redness of the lips and tongue
- Tiredness

- Inability to wake up
- Chest pain
- Bluish lips or face
- Difficulty breathing

- Severe stomach pain
Moreover, the children affecting with this disease are usually facing cardiac complications. Because the disease put a strain on the heart. As a result, the blood vessels become inflamed and are unable to carry blood.
Treatment of Kawasaki like Multi-Inflammatory Syndrome;
The different therapy protocols are followed by doctors to manage the disease. Thus, the doctors are applying the therapies that help to enhance the Immune System and reduce Inflammation.
- Intravenous Immunoglobin (IVIG)
- Steroids
- High dose Aspirin
- Supportive measures for heart and lungs
